Heard on the Street Wednesday Recap: A Less Hawkish Cut

The Federal Reserve cut interest rates. As expected, the central bank cut its rate target by a quarter point, to a range of 3.5% to 3.75%. The Fed also said it would resume expanding its balance sheet by buying short-term Treasury securities, aiming to head off pressure in overnight lending markets.
