Stocks Wrap Best August Since 2021. September Could Be Tricky.

The S&P 500 fell 0.3%, while the Nasdaq Composite dropped 0.1%. Baird's Ross Mayfield credits the month-end weakness to the uptick in oil prices fueled by reignited fighting in Iran. Despite Monday's weakness, all three major indexes ended the month higher, with the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq recording their best August performances since 2021, rising 2.6% and 3.9%, respectively.
